One of the things that most entrepreneurs experience is the unknown, so how to deal with uncertainty is definitely a useful skill to develop.
Entrepreneurs and artists are constantly taking risks and stepping outside of their creative boundaries. If you’ve ever choked up or stopped yourself on the brink of doing something you’ve never done before: welcome to the club!
It’s time to learn how to deal with uncertainty so that we don’t allow those moments of doubt to stop us cold in our tracks. That’s where Uncertainty: Turning Fear and Doubt into Fuel for Brilliance by Jonathan Fields comes in!

Tips for How to Deal With Uncertainty
Here are some my favorite tips from the book. You’ll want to grab your copy on Kindle or print, to get the full scoop and in depth how-to.
- Find Your Creativity Anchors: Build a routine. A lot of creatives resist setting up a daily routine, because the spontaneity seems to go missing when you’ve got your whole day planned. But consider the possibility that having designated times for your creative self to come out and play (without fear of interruption or having to remember to feed the dog) is that much more freeing!
- Build Your Hive: Find your support group. Having a group of like minded entrepreneurs and supporters has been one of the most life changing business decisions I’ve ever made. Jonathan talks a lot about business incubators in his book, but you can also get the same effect by joining a mastermind and getting to know people in your field via social media.
- Train Your Brain: Start a meditative practice. This one might seem a little too “out there” for some people, but being introspective and quieting the mind is quite magical for business. When you can be fully present and let go of the thoughts that might derail you from your goals, you can truly operate from your greatest place. This helps you make better business decisions and reduce your stress levels.
When do you experience the most uncertainty?
My initial thought was that new entrepreneurs who strike out on their own are the ones who experience the most uncertainty. But I’ve come to realize over the years as a business owner, that we all face uncertainty on a daily basis.
