The Pumpkin Plan Book Review

Killing your darlings, and searching for the best seeds… that’s exactly what Mike Michelowicz’s latest book The Pumpkin Plan: A Simple Strategy to Grow a Remarkable Business in Any Field advocates.

I’m taking a book off of Nathalie’s Library and delivering this business book review just in time for my favorite time of the year: autumn and Halloween.

Who is The Pumpkin Plan for? Mike wrote this book for the stressed out, cash strapped entrepreneur who is working too hard and hoping that the next big client they land will solve all the problems in the business. Sound familiar? I’ve certainly been there while I was operating as a web designer.

This book will help business owners who are already well underway, but I also think that it’s a great primer for how to start a profitable business from day one. So don’t skip it just because you’re not in that stressed out entrepreneurial zone.

The Pumpkin Plan Book Review & Takeaways

Remove The Smaller Pumpkins

One of the most powerful ideas that Mike shares in this book is that you need to remove the smaller pumpkins on the vine, to allow the big one to grow even bigger.

This analogy refers to focusing on your most profitable, fun, and overall best clients. Mike recommends firing your worst clients, and he insists that this must happen before you look for more of your top clients. This creates the space you need to serve your best clients better and then look for more of them.

The Pumpkin Plan Requires a Good Seed

The second piece of super actionable advice that Mike shares is the idea that you need a really powerful seed to grow a giant pumpkin. In this case, he means that you need to have a strong idea that your top clients really love and can’t wait to buy from you.

The Pumpkin Plan explains how to find these ideas, and test them before you change your entire business. Another great tip that stems from this one is to get in touch with your ideal clients’ favorite vendors and see how you can better serve your client by aligning with their other vendors.

Super Actionable, Fun Read, Lots Of Stories

I had a great time reading The Pumpkin Plan and I highly recommend it if you’re ready to stop struggling in your business and get on the right track to massive growth.

It’s a fun read, Mike’s writing style is witty and conversational, and he lets his Jersey personality shine through. He also shares a bunch of great stories and case studies that illustrate how powerful these concepts can be when you apply them to your business.

Happy Halloween & Happy Reading

I hope you’ll check out Mike’s book The Pumpkin Plan, and let me know what you plan to do to celebrate this Halloween in your business!
