Quick Tips to Style Your Blog Posts Like a Problogger

So you want to be a problogger, but your blog posts aren’t as styling as you’d like? This quick video post is going to show you these quick tips for formatting your blog posts like a pro.

This video will be helpful to anyone who is new to blogging, or who is used to editing documents in programs like Microsoft Word. Writing for the web is different from print, but there are a lot of great things to learn from print formatting.

One advantage to writing blog posts for the web, if done right, is that once you publish a post you can change the way it looks through your WordPress theme or via “style sheets”.

Things to avoid when styling your posts like a problogger

A problem can arise if you hard code the formatting into your blog posts. Say you were writing a post and wanted to highlight certain text in pink colors, because your blog design was pink and white. What if you decided to change your blog’s theme or color scheme down the line… would you want to go back to each blog post to change the colors you used? Of course not.

So that’s why I’m going to show you how to make changes that work with your blog’s theme, and if you want to make changes to the theme itself… that’s totally doable. If you’re interested in learning that, let me know in the comments and it might turn into a future video!

What other things would you like to learn?

Sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know, but other times you have a feeling other people have figured out how to do things… and I’d love to share with you how to do techy things you wish you knew, so let me know what they are in the comments below!

Be sure to “Get Techy Now” by grabbing my free weekly email Cues, and you’ll be on your way to being a problogger!

I’ve had to change all my colors and OH MY GOODNESS. I had to stop because it’s harder to find them all the more content you have.

    Thanks, Nathalie. Questions!

    1. Dioes the fetaured post go to the top automatuically or do you position there with your cursor?

    2. When you indicate left/right etc. IT chooses how far left and right to put the photo, yes?

    3. Not quite certain about the color aspect. Do you mean that the colors you have selected for your theme are the ones that default to headlines etc in your post? Not sure how that works! How ould it know!? Otherwise all text remains black on white, yes? And that trying to change those “colors”m (or rather impose a color) will do what you said and cause trouble down the line?. Does that mean , for example, you couldn’t use a specific color (red , .or….. in the post? If so, how do you indicate that you would like to make a line a color?

    4. I have deleted a photo that was either the wrong size or in the wrong place or neeeded a caption. Do I just go to the media center and repost the photo?

    5. The feature photo in your video was askewe…was that intentional? Fixable?

    6. You moved the photo in the post. Are they alal capable of movement like that?

    Isn’t this fun!

    Sorry! Just learning!

    Frank

@Caledon 1. It depends on the theme, usually at the top yes.

    2. It goes to the right-most or left-most position possible.

    3. Again the colors you want to define should be done through your theme or via CSS. Ask your designer or web person to do that for you, or to define some CSS classes for certain colors.

    4. Yes! :)

    5. The photo I chose had a frame and was askew by design, you can use any photo you like!

    6. Yes they are all capable of movement! :)

    Glad you’re learning Frank!
