Whether you know it or not, you’ve got intuition. Now, you might not recognize it as such but there is a part of you that seems to know when something feels off and when something’s a good idea.
Even when it’s not logical to your practical brain.
Intuition in Business
Sometimes in business we get hunches.
You might meet someone and feel like it’s not a good idea to do business with them and sometimes you do it anyway, only to find out later that there was a fundamental difference in how you see projects and it didn’t work out.
Other times your intuition can steer you in the right direction, and many times that direction doesn’t make much sense. But through some “fluke” you end up sitting at a cafe when your ideal client asks if they can borrow your pen. And things go up from there.
Psychology Today says that intuition can happen through rapid cognition, where you notice something without even knowing that you noticed it.
You can sharpen your intuition, and over time start to trust your gut as you gain more experience in life and business decisions.
So now I want to task you with a very important and fun intuition exercise!
Why am I talking about this today? Because I believe that businesses thrive when you have a balance of logical planning and thinking, and deeper intuitive inner knowing.
Intuition Exercise
I want you to start tracking every time that you get an intuitive nudge, and what happens when you listen to it, or choose to ignore it.
I very much want you to write these experiences down, either on paper, or digitally.
The reason I insist on writing these cases down each time they happen is that you need to see proof for yourself of just how powerful your own intuition is. And in turn, you’ll be able to hone it and trust it even more.
You might start by doing a quick inventory of times you can recall off the top of your head. Just seeing a few examples of your intuition at work will help you commit to this exercise and see it through for a few weeks or months.
One example from my own business life is the name for this show and our live event: Off The Charts.
I was walking home from the subway, and I had been brainstorming names for a few days when it hit me: off the charts.
I just knew that was it, and that it was going to take on a life of its own, and it really has.
I’ve also had so many intuitive hits about hiring people, letting go of projects, moving to new places, and even introducing myself to strangers.
So go ahead, start writing down some positive reinforcement for your own intuitive abilities.
If you want more intuitive training, check out Laura Day’s book Practical Intuition – I’ve taken her live workshop and there’s much wisdom to be gained here.
Leave a comment below with 1 specific time where your intuition was spot on! I’m a curious animal, and I want to know.
