#022: Failed Business Got You Down?

Off The Charts Business PodcastIn episode 22 of the podcast, I share my experiences starting new businesses and why it’s totally okay.

Failed businesses are nothing to be ashamed of!

You know that statistic that 4 out of 5 businesses fail? When you think about these numbers it can be really depressing, especially if you’re just starting out and you don’t want to be one of the failed businesses in these charts.

Today I want to share my take on the whole “failed businesses” thing and help reframe this sad statistic.

When I think back through my entrepreneurial history, I know I’ve gone through way more than 5 business ideas and attempts.

Personally, I haven’t met a single successful business owner whose journey didn’t involve some struggle, testing, and iterating. It’s interesting to me that people think they’re failing if they’re struggling. Is there any other way to develop an idea that truly works?

Michael Jordan once famously said, “I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

We should all get used to the idea that we have to fail to truly succeed. :)
