#019: Is Your Online Persona The Real You?

Off The Charts Business PodcastIn episode 19 of the podcast, we discuss why it matters who you are online and how you represent yourself.

How does your online persona match up to the “real” you?

When you meet someone who you’ve watched from afar online… how likely is it that their online persona is really how they are in person?

I’ve seen both cases: people who are exactly how they are online, offline… and people who seem to have different personalities entirely.

    Hello, Nathalie!

Thank you for you blog and podcasts. I’ve gone through a handful of items and have enjoyed. Also appreciated your contributions to B-School. Very helpful.

Question for you… thoughts on writing under a pseudonym? For Rhubarb, my thoughts are to have RBJardin (Rhuby Barb Jardin)be the writer/editor and facilitator for the site. Caroline Harrison is the business side, publisher etc.

The reason I’m looking at this route is because of wanting to keep some separation between the feisty, somewhat spunky nature of the content and relationship with the readers and the business side which will eventually develop relationships with other businesses for example, for potential advertising sales.

My guess is that people will figure out fairly soon that RBJ doesn’t exist, but it seems fun.

    Your thoughts?

I’ve had clients in the past who chose to go under a pseudonym and it worked for them. I think it comes down to your goals and comfort levels, so trust your gut on this one. :)
