Creating Influence With Your Content – How to Use What You’ve Got to Get Where You Want to Go

You might not realize it yet, but creating influence is not only possible but it’s essential to your online business success. The definition of influence is: “The capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something.”

Fairly straightforward right? Let’s talk about why having influence is important, and then we’ll go over the steps to creating influence in your business online.

Why would you want to influence your readers or blog visitors? You might want to influence them to take action, like click play on a video marketing piece, leave a comment, share your work with their colleagues, or implement an idea that has the potential to change their life.

I’m going to go one step further and say that without creating influence, you won’t be able to get people to take action on your suggestions… and that getting someone to take the first step with you is just as important as getting someone to buy what you’ve got to sell.

Creating Influence Starts With Where You’re At Now

A lot of us want to rush to the finish line, to get the right answers without doing the homework, and experience the results without putting in the effort. Myself included. But there’s a problem with looking over the answers before reading the questions: you won’t learn.

I believe that in order to have the influence you need to succeed in your business, you need to start where you’re at. No skipping ahead, just one step at a time. And you know what’s great about that? When you start with where you’re at, you can bootstrap and evolve much faster than trying to skip ahead. True story.

When trying to turn your entrepreneurial ship around, you need to take into account the direction of the winds. If you’re in the middle of the ocean and it’s quiet as can be, you don’t have any data to help you decide where to go. But if you’ve been taking in the feedback of your readers and tribe, you’ll know exactly where you’re going.

Watch this quick video to see exactly what I mean by that.

How to Use PostRank to Track Your Influence

This is where PostRank comes in. Once you’ve installed the PostRank plugin, you’ll see how each of your blog posts rank against each other. Some blog posts and topics are hot stuff, while others are ho-hum.

Your job is now to detect any patterns that might have formed. Do your blog posts go viral every time you write about dogs? Duly note it.

Do your readers seem to share their innermost thoughts with you when you open up first? Great.

Do the blog posts that perform the best revolve around a certain topic, get posted on a certain day of the week, or is there another common thread? Now you can find out.

Once you know what makes a blog post stand out from the rest, it’s time to use that to your advantage. Repeat what works, and leave what’s not working behind. That’s creating influence by leveraging what you’ve already got going for you.

Don’t overlook this just because it’s simple. Creating influence is much easier when you repeat what’s worked for you in the past, instead of trying to reinvent the wheel. If people like when you talk about a certain topic, expand on it, talk about related ideas, and keep building on what works.

Leave a comment below & share your hottest blog post

After you’ve installed PostRank, come back and let us know which one of your blog posts ranks the highest. I want to read it, and I know everyone else will too.

We can all learn from each other, so let’s share our own formulas for creating influence via blog posts.
