How to Write Faster using Speech Technology

If you’re a blogger you might have looked for tips on how to write faster and save time writing blog posts. After all, the faster you can write the more prolific of a writer you will be.

I love writing by hand because it’s a great way to slow down my thinking and really articulate what I want to get across. On the other hand, sometimes a concept is really clear in my mind and I just want to get it out there so it can impact as many people as possible.

That’s when being able to write faster comes in handy.

There are lots of ideas and concepts to help you write faster, but sometimes it takes a paradigm shift to get us to the next level.

How to Write Faster using Speech Recognition Technology

First, I need to mention that I used to be a software developer for a company that developed speech recognition software, and that it was acquired by Nuance. That being said, I’m not receiving any financial rewards for telling you about this product.

I just happen to love using Dragon Dictate on my Mac to write faster. If you’re on a PC you’ll want to check out Dragon Naturally Speaking.

I’ve personally seen my writing time decrease significantly after I started using dictation. If an article usually took two hours, it would take me only one to write and edit. How’s that for how to write faster tips?

Using speech technology takes some getting used to, but once you’ve got the hang of it you can really write faster, articulate your ideas more easily, and jot down notes at a faster rate.

Another benefit for me has been the ability to write articles and article outlines while standing up with a headset on. That way I’m not sitting down all day, I can take small walks while I’m talking my articles out.

Have you ever tried speech recognition?

I’ve seen the speech recognition industry change a lot over the years, so if you’ve ever given it a go but got discouraged… maybe this is the right time to try your hand (hands free!) at it again.
